Shine Your Light

The tree is gone. The lights are not twinkling. There are no bows or ornaments. All the nativity sets have been wrapped and put away. The kids say the house looks boring after the Christmas decorations go away. I am glad to have my house back to somewhat of an orderly fashion, but I do miss the dim light that shines from the Christmas tree each night in December. The light was just a soft glow, but the comfort of it always made me smile. The colorful lights that were on our trees outside made for a cheerful display of our Christmas Joy.

Light makes life less fearful. Light brightens our lives. Light chases away the darkness.

Light

That's our family word for the year.

When we are walking with God, there is no darkness. Light can be found in His Word. Light was the first thing God created. Such a powerful word and a powerful thing. True light can only be found in God.

My daughter just placed second in an art competition for a poster for Martin Luther King Jr. With her drawing, she included his quote, "Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that."

Be a Light. Shine your Light. Show God's Light.

As 2023 begins, I want to be a light for God. Shining His goodness on my family, my friends and even those I do not know. Choose to smile more, help more, give more, be more, show joy more, and shine my light more. Here's to the year of Light!

“I am the light of the world.

Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness,

but will have the light of life.” John 8:12

"For you are my lamp, O LORD,

and my God lightens my darkness." 2 Samuel 22:29

"when I sit in darkness,

the LORD will be a light to me." Micah 7:8b
